What is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are singular restorations that are designed to effectively cover and rebuild a tooth. Crowns are highly versatile and can be used successfully to treat a wide variety of dental needs, including the following:

When a tooth has a large cavity that cannot be treated by a typical filling.

When a tooth already has a large filling and needs additional support to remain functional.

When a tooth has suffered a serious injury and needs to be rebuilt.

When a tooth has a major cosmetic imperfection.

When a tooth has become weakened and is at risk of fracturing.

When a lost tooth has been replaced by a dental implant and needs restoration.

When a tooth has been treated with root canal therapy and requires protection.

Having a new dental crown designed, milled, and placed within the patient’s mouth typically requires two appointments. During the first appointment, we will capture detailed impressions and adjust the tooth as needed before placing a temporary crown. Once the laboratory has completed the permanent model and sent it to our location, Dr. Shaik will bring you back in to remove the temporary and cement the finished crown in place.

What is a Dental Bridge?

When one or more natural teeth in a row have been lost, a dental bridge can provide permanent, stable replacements that patients can count on. These prosthetics are provided in conjunction with dental crowns; the crowns are designed to work as “anchors” that fit over nearby healthy teeth in order to hold the bridge in place and fill the gap. Now, patients can bite into foods without worry again and prevent other teeth from shifting out of position unnecessarily. Like dental crowns, the design and creation of a personalized dental bridge typically take two appointments.
